This week's featured military camping facility is the Southwinds Marina On Lake Amistad in Texas! Southwinds Marina on Lake Amistad operated by Laughlin Air Force Base is a definite “must see” no matter what the season!
Offering cabins, RV camping, on-site RV trailers as well as a marina with boat rentals, boat tours, and a boat ramp, guests are sure to enjoy a week or a weekend here! Lake Amistad has a variety of fish: Trout, bass, catfish and crappie. A Texas State fishing license is required (available at AAFES customer Service Counter). You'll also find various picnic areas, a playground, sand volleyball court, snack bar, equipment rentals, and a basketball court.
Situated near Amistad Dam which serves as passageway to Mexico, this location is an ideal freshwater recreation area that offers excellent fishing. It is a convenient base for day trips into Mexico and surrounding activities.
There is also a full range of support facilities at Laughlin Air Force Base 30 miles southeast.
