Dyess Air Force Base FamCamp, TX | Featured Camping

This week’s featured military camping location is the Dyess Air Force Base FamCamp, located at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas! Located just off of I-20 in Abilene, Dyess AFB FamCamp is the perfect stop along your route.

The Dyess Air Force Base FamCamp offers 24 campsites, which include 20/30/50 amp electric, water and sewage hookups. You’ll also find laundry and bath facilities, a water and dump station, WiFi and a cable box! Tent camping is available if you like to rough it. They also offer picnic tables and barbeque grills, and access to the base fishing pond. Reservations can be made here, 60 days out by Active Duty, and all others can make reservations 30 days out. FamCamp Park is pet friendly. Restrictions and fees may apply.


Things to do in the area include the Mesquite Grove Golf Course on base, there is a community center (known as the Hangar Center) which hosts the library, micro market, and numerous events, the Dyess Lanes bowling alley, and the Dyess Theater, with free movies playing every Saturday! There is a collection of vintage aircraft on display at the base Air Park, and also indoor and outdoor pools (seasonal) at the Fitness Center, but you need to check for closures and hours of operation. Local insights include the zoo in Abilene, boating, fishing and sailing at Lake Fort Phantom Hill and the Buffalo Gap Historic Village.
