This week's featured military camping facility is the Buckley Space Force Base FamCamp! Situated in an area known as the “Gateway to the Rockies”, the on-base FamCamp offers access to many outdoor activities, scenic mountain views and tranquility.
Buckley's FamCamp features 38 slots with full hookups that include electric, sewer, and water. You'll also find on site restrooms and a laundry building. Reservations can be made 60 days in advance for Active Duty, Reserve, and Guard members, and 30 days in advance for Retired, DoD employees and contractors. Length of stay is limited to 45 nights. Base access is required to use the FamCamp.

Buckley Space Force Base is located in Aurora, Colorado, and there are plenty of things to do and see in the surrounding area while you're here. Here are some suggestions:
Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge: Just 10 minutes from the base, this 15,000-acre refuge is home to bison, deer, and over 300 species of birds.
Aurora History Museum: Explore the history of Aurora and the surrounding area at this museum, located about 15 minutes from the base.
Anschutz Medical Campus: The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is about 20 minutes from the base and offers a variety of attractions, including the Children's Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado Hospital.
Cherry Creek State Park: This 4,200-acre park is about 25 minutes from the base and offers boating, fishing, and hiking opportunities.
Denver Art Museum: The Denver Art Museum is about 30 minutes from the base and features a unique architecture and a diverse collection of art from around the world.
Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park: For some thrill and fun, head to Elitch Gardens, about 30 minutes from the base.
Washington Park: This 160-acre park in Denver is about 35 minutes from the base and offers walking paths, a lake, and plenty of picnic areas.
Lakeside Amusement Park: Another amusement park option, Lakeside Amusement Park is about 35 minutes from the base and features roller coasters, water rides, and more.
Denver Zoo: The Denver Zoo is about 40 minutes from the base and is home to over 4,000 animals from around the world.
Golden Gate Canyon State Park: For some outdoor adventure, head to Golden Gate Canyon State Park, about 45 minutes from the base. It offers hiking, camping, and scenic drives.
Lookout Mountain: Take a scenic drive up Lookout Mountain, about 45 minutes from the base, and enjoy the views of the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains.
Georgetown: This charming town is about an hour from the base and offers historic buildings, shops, and restaurants. Take a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad or hike to the top of Mount Evans.
Golden: Another charming town, Golden is about an hour from the base and offers historic buildings, breweries, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Rocky Mountain National Park: While a bit farther away (about 2 hours from the base), Rocky Mountain National Park is a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts. It offers hiking, camping, and scenic drives.
These are just a few of the many things to do near Buckley Space Force Base. Depending on your interests and the time of year you visit, there are plenty of other attractions and activities to explore in the area.
