With the holidays just around the corner, now is a great time for us to share with you information on the Toys For Tots Foundation! It's that time of year where you will start to see at your base Exchanges, Walmart, and other retailers, boxes collecting unwrapped toys to be delivered to children in need.
The mission statement of Toys For Tots states "the basic mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas". A little history of the foundation, it is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity which was created at the behest of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1991.
Something you may not know, is that Toys For Tots is not just here for the holidays. Toys For Tots does have year-round outreach - they also have a Foster Children Program, a Native American Program, a Literacy Program, and youth ambassadors, a program that spotlights “children helping children”.
