How To Access The DoD MWR Libraries

Did you know that Active Duty, Retirees, 100% DAV, and anyone with a DoD ID number are able to access the MWR Libraries? If you are planning some fun trips this summer, but the idea of carrying all of your books seems daunting, or if you always enjoy researching the latest science and technology news, guess what? The virtual DoD MWR Libraries have you covered. Not only that, you can access an incredible digital library full of e-books, audiobooks, movies, academic support, test prep, professional development, and more. The eligible list of patrons is at the bottom of this post.


The amount of content you can access is vast and almost limitless. It's so much more than just books. Here are some examples:


- Biography and Genealogy

- Do it Yourself

- eBooks and audiobooks

- Newspapers and Magazines

- Children's Corner

- Continuing Education

- Reference and Research

- Science and Technology

- Streaming Music and Videos


To begin, visit the website here: https://dodmwrlibraries.org/. At the top right of the website, you'll see a "Login" link. Click that to begin your eligibility verification. All you need is to enter your DoD ID number and your date of birth.

To access content, you must choose any streaming access applications: OverDrive, Mango, Libby, etc.

Authorized patrons today include:


  • Active duty military (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard).

  • Members of the Reserve components and National Guard.

  • Retired military, including retired from the Reserves and National Guard.

  • Medal of Honor recipients and veterans with 100% service-connected disabilities.

  • Eligible family members who are officially sponsored (ID card holder) by authorized patrons in the above categories.

  • DoD and Coast Guard civilians, including appropriated and non-appropriated fund employees, when stationed outside the United States; stateside eligibility contingent upon resource availability.
