This Week’s featured retirement location is Franklin, TN. Franklin is a city just south of Nashville, approximately ten miles south of Brentwood, TN. Franklin gets high marks due to its below-average cost of living, its proximity to an international airport (BNA), low crime, excellent hospitals, and average access to VA and military benefit facilities. (approximately 70 miles southeast).
Franklin was a key battleground during the Civil War. A few surviving plantations that served as field hospitals during the battles that ended the rebellion in Tennessee are a delight to explore.
The city has plenty of shopping and dining experience as well. Factory at Franklin is a fun little shopping center with dining, live music, and of course shopping. A popular spot for live music is also Leiper’s Fork, about fifteen minutes west of the city center. For Southern barbeque and open mic night be sure to investigate Puckett’s Grocery.
Take a walk down the picturesque main street and explore the art galleries like Cooper Fox and David Arms. Of course, the region is also famous for its whiskey. Be sure to visit the Masters and Makers Trail that winds through scenic Williamson County or the dozen of interesting distilleries in the region.
