Inflatable Kayaking Trips
The Outdoor Adventure Program at JBER, has a new experience for the outdoor enthusiast to try…Inflatable kayaking trips! Inflatable kayaks are perfect for beginners because they make kayaking easier and safer by reducing the risk of tipping over. Trained guides take participants on the Portage River, a Class I and II, very shallow, low-difficulty rapid. Here you can enjoy the sights of glaciers, mountains and potentially wildlife. The inflatable kayaking trips are available to all service members and their dependents 14 years and older. All necessary gear is supplied by the OAP. Trips can be booked up to 30 days in advance.

Salmon Fishing at JBER
JBER’s location offers a variety of summer activities. Right outside the Government Hill gate, Ship Creek offers some of the most popular salmon fishing in town. To find out more information on fishing opportunities in the Anchorage area, contact Outdoor Recreation at 552-2023. An Alaska State fishing license is required for fishing on JBER. In addition to a state fishing license, a recreational permit (available online) is required to fish on JBER.

AAFES Upgrades at JBER
To better serve the military community, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service has renovated two Express locations at JBER, bringing modern convenience to Soldiers, Airmen and their families. The Elmendorf Express has been upgraded with a new Snack Avenue counter and a brand-new island cooler that is stocked with healthy grab-and-go choices that include salads, sandwiches and yogurt. Also included in the updates are a new polished concrete floor and new register stands. The Richardson Express has also been upgraded with a new Snack Avenue counter, checkout area and new fixtures and a new color palette to make it more modern.
