COVER STORY: VA Beach Navy Rental Cottages!

For the past few years, R.J., Roy Sr., and Ann have been driving often to the new area chosen for the Navy Getaway Rental Cottages. One day, they saw the beginning of the new cottages underway. To celebrate, Ann took a picture on the ocean side of Roy Sr. (You can see the picture on page 4). It was a happy day to see the future Navy Getaway Rental Cottages coming true! To read the whole story, flip to page 3!

(P.S., Leaping Lizard Cafe, a local VA Beach eatery that has been featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri, has moved across the street from the 67th Street Navy Getaway Rental Cottages. Their location is in the Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. Spa Health Center building and is open to the public. According to their website, Bill Prince, the founder and owner of Leaping Lizard, “prides himself on farm fresh ingredients. Prince’s part-time produce stand ran for eight years prior to the opening of his popular café, which serves fresh and local ingredients and features sandwiches, salads, soups, wraps, baked goods, vegetarian and gluten-free options, and much more.”

Peoria Airport Renamed to Honor U.S. Army General

Space-A travelers traveling to, from, or through Peoria, Illinois may not be aware that on October 10, 2008, the former “Greater Peoria Regional Airport” was renamed the “General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport” (Haney). A graduate of West Point, the highly decorated Four Star General served his country for 34 years and is regarded as the Father of the U.S. Special Operations Forces and the modern Army Rangers (generaldowning.org). His namesake airport provides commercial flights to such far-flung locations as Minneapolis and Tampa/St. Petersburg, as well as other diverse destinations (airportin.org). Space-A travelers, however, will find themselves limited to very infrequent flights via Air National Guard C-130E or transient aircraft to various CONUS and OCONUS locations. For more information on available Space-A flight destinations, routings, and schedules, travelers may call C-309-633-5513.
