The Washington Monument is set to reopen on September 19 after several years of closure. Since the Aug. 23, 2011, earthquake, the national landmark has been closed on and off for more than five years. As time passed, the Park Service wrestled with problems, and an estimated 2.5 million people missed the chance to enter the structure.
