Hill AFB, Utah (UT02R4) – Hill Air Force Base announced its plan to begin development of a four-star hotel near Park City’s ski resorts. Although plans to actually start building are possibly a few years down the road, they expect that the completed project will be similar in operation to Shades of Green and Hale Koa, both of which are operated by the Army as Armed Forces Recreation Centers.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported on Saturday, August 6, 2016 that the Air Force and a state agency will build on six acres, donated by Wells Fargo, in Wasatch County. The planned hotel will sit adjacent to Deer Valley Resort in walking distance of the Jordanelle Express Gondola. The public will be able to stay at the resort too, but a number of rooms at reduced rates will be set aside for military personnel from all four branches of the military and military retirees.
David Williamsen, Chief of the enhanced-use lease office at Hill AFB states that Air Forces plans to use a graduated scale for room rates, meaning the lower your rank, the less you pay. Williamsen stated that this will “provide a world-class recreation experience for military members and their families.”
The resort will be located about 60 miles from Hill AFB and will offer both winter and summer recreation, including snow skiing and mountain biking. The U.S. military considers such hotels valuable to morale.
