Amtrak’s Vermonter rail line now offers carry-on bike service for trains at all station stops from Washington, D.C., to St. Albans in northern Vermont. Capacity is limited so advanced reservations are required. A fee of $20 applies if you are traveling between Washington, DC, and New Haven, CT and $10 between New Haven and St. Albans, VT. Only standard size bikes are permitted and only one bike per passenger. You must be physically able to lift your bike to shoulder height and you must remove the front wheel to hang it properly on the train.
Reservations can be made on Amtrak.com (select “add bike” when booking), by phone (1-800- USA-RAIL) or by visiting any Amtrak ticket office. Bike reservations cannot be made through Amtrak mobile apps. For more information visit www.Amtrak.com.
