Each year over 90,000 people from throughout the world are welcomed to Fort Ticonderoga, a not-for-profit administered by the Fort Ticonderoga Association.
The Fort is much more than a restored military fortress. Your visit will include rich and varied offerings including costumed interpreters, 30-minute guided tours, a world class museum, daily musket demonstrations, and self-guided tours of the Fort.
Visit the Fort Ticonderoga National Historic Landmark and come away with a deeper understanding of American history from the French and Indian War and Revolutionary War periods of the 18th century.
You'll experience the meanings of freedom, personal sacrifice, and public responsibility – as the stories of the men, women, and children whose lives became entwined in the colonial wars unfold through the Fort's collections, educational programs, and reenactments.

In planning my visit to Fort Ticonderoga, I heard about a military family, Al & Irene Zaccor, who purchased a nearby cottage on Lake Champlain in Vermont about 25 minutes from the Fort. I thought that would be a better experience than staying at a chain hotel and would better enable us to experience the Vermont countryside. My previous experience with Vermont was a tour of the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory and the Vermont Country Store. On our first trip, we did not really get out into the farm communities and experience how people live.
On the way to Al & Irene's place, we stopped for dinner at the Bridge Restaurant for some local Vermont country cooking. It was a small comfortable diner with excellent food. My main interest was to try one of the seven homemade Vermont pies. Well, we were not disappointed; the dinner and dessert were great! You can find the Bridge Restaurant at the junction of Routes 125W & 17E, Addison, VT 05491, telephone 802-759-2152.
Irene & Al's cottage is just a short drive from the Bridge Restaurant and about 25 minutes from Fort Ticonderoga. It has a great view of Lake Champlain. As we arrived, the sun was setting, so we pulled out a couple of chairs to the deck and enjoyed the relaxing view.
Their cottage sleeps 11, it has four bedrooms and two baths along with all the comforts of home. If you like outdoor activities such as hiking, biking or kayaking, the cottage gives you a central location to experience an active vacation. The choice is really yours---if an active vacation is not for you, shopping and country dining are close by.
The cottage is also one hour from Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas, if you would like to make a winter trip. To find out more about Irene & Al's cottage please visit their weblink, below:
