The Mansurs' Travel through New England
to the Canadian Maritimes |
In December, my wife, Jean, and I were returning home from Ramstein Air Base to Baltimore International Airport (BWI), aboard one of the AMC Patriot flights, and discussing what a wonderful Space-A trip it had been. We had rendezvoused in Paris with one of our daughters and her family for Christmas.
"But I have to tell you," Jean said to me, "I'm all Europed out for the time being!" We had taken three Space-A trips to Europe in the past two years. "Lets go somewhere else on our next trip," she said.
This past summer we decided on a trip up to the Canadian Maritimes in the early fall, just before my annual Kyushu Gypsy Squadron reunion scheduled for mid-October.

Margie and Cliff Weathers
Travel to the South Pacific |
On 24 October 2006, my husband and I left from Hartsfield Jackson Airport in Atlanta, bound for the South Pacific Kingdom of Tonga, and then on to New Zealand. We were gone three weeks in all.
Even though our travel was entirely commercial, the many retired and active duty military people who go to Hawaii and points east are sure to find Tonga a marvelous destination.

Marv & Carole Feldman's
Great Adventure Down Under |
Each of our Great Adventures is unique and special. This Great Adventure was one with a mission: to attend a family gathering in Sydney, Australia (hometown of my wife, Carole) over the weekend of 17-19 November. We decided to give ourselves plenty of time to get to Australia on Space-A flights as these military hops are totally unpredictable!

Tom & Ina Berkey Fly Space-A
to Naples and the Amalfi Coast |
We count Space-A travel as a priceless treasure. Why? Because we travel free (well, there is sometimes a "tax" of about $25 on military commercial contract flights), we meet fascinating people on the way (it's the journey, not the destination), and we see interesting places around the world!

The Mansurs Take a Space-A
Journey and Visit East Germany
By MAJ Dana L. Mansur Jr. |
My wife, Jean, and I have been taking Space-A trips for a number of years. Most of these past trips have necessarily been short - usually two weeks or less. This was due to the fact that Jean was still working as a reporter and staff writer for a major New Jersey newspaper until her retirement in January 2004. I had taken my final retirement from an engineering firm in 1999. We had always planned on taking more extensive stays in Europe after her retirement.

Bill and Cynthia Ware's RV Journey
From Mississippi to Alaska
By Bill & Cynthia Ware |
This is a report for RVers who have or hope to take the big trip on the Alaska Highway. It is more about tips and suggestions, than a day by day journal. We did the usual things before hand, talking to everyone we could find who had made the trip, buying the latest Milepost and other relevant travel guides, making lists and checking everything twice. I wanted to take only what we needed. We saw no need to bring extra food from home. I did take a five-gallon can of diesel fuel that I did not need. Another reason for carrying less is that things inside your unit can bounce around over long trips.

Our itinerary for our annual trip to Europe this year included stops in Germany, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Austria.
