A NEW ARMED FORCES
RECREATION CENTER (AFRC)
IS OPEN!
Cape Henry CottagesIf you love the Hale Koa in Hawaii, the Edelweiss in Garmisch, Germany, Shades of Green on Walt Disney World Resort, or the Dragon Hill Resort in Seoul, Korea, we have news for you. The new AFRC is now open! It is called the The Cape Henry Inn and Beach Club! Surpised you, didn't I? Don't feel badly, though, I live part-time in Virginia Beach, and this news even surprised me!
In recent issues of R&R Travel News®, we have told you about the exciting Hampton Roads area in the northeastern coastal area of Virginia. The new AFRC is located on Fort Story, VA, at Virginia Beach, the army post well-known to military families who have been stationed on the east coast.
History buffs will appreciate the fact that this is a very historic location. The first settlers of our country actually landed on what is now Fort Story before going on to Jamestown! A beautiful cross marks the spot. Besides that, there are two historic lighthouses and a beach that young and old will enjoy.
Our family has spent time over a period of more than forty-five years at Virginia Beach, and this protected Army post was always a favorite of ours. Let's just say it is very "beachy" and laid back. This may change a little bit with the visits of thousands of of military and their families now being able to know and enjoy this new AFRC over the coming years.
After all, Virginia Beach is a tourist attraction that has also been chosen by MONEY Magazine as the No.1 Large City in the South in its "Best Places to Live in America." It has also been chosen by other publications as one of ten best cities in the USA for women and on the best places to raise a family!
The new AFRC at Fort Story, VA will be our lead story in the July/August issue of Military Living's R&R Travel News®. Have you ever thought of subscribing? Here's a place to see several back issues on our website, www.militaryliving.com under the title R&R Travel News®.
If you subscribe, you will be among the first to know of new developments in military R&R travel. This newsletter has been published since 1970 for military and their families of all Services and ALL ranks!
Now we will also be covering which of these many military travel "bennies" will also be available to DoD civilian employees! As an example, this new AFRC is open to DoD employees, active and retired!
