VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (NNS) - Navy Lodge Norfolk, Va., opened the doors of its new four story, 100-room facility Dec. 13. The new Navy Lodge features all types of rooms - family, business class, standard as well as handicapped rooms. The opening of the new building completes Phase 1 of the three-phase project.

Each of the new guest rooms has the latest amenities including Internet hook up, free local phone calls, air conditioning, cable TV, a DVD, direct-dial telephone service and a kitchenette complete with microwave and utensils.

"Navy Lodge Norfolk incorporates the latest and greatest in comfort, technology and convenience for our Navy Lodge guests," said Michael Bockelman, vice president and director of lodging, NEXCOM Navy Lodge Program. "Plus, Navy Lodge room rates are 40 percent below those found in the civilian sector and below per diem rates. So Navy Lodge guests can feel comfortable knowing they are staying in a quality hotel without spending a great deal of money. This saves everyone money."

Phase 2, which is now underway, calls for the demolition of the original two-story 90-room Navy Lodge that was built in 1971. Phase 3, which is planned for 2007, includes the remodeling of the 200-room Navy Lodge tower, building a new lobby, conference rooms and gift shop. During the renovation, those guest rooms will be closed.

"It is a pleasure working with the fine staff at the hotel and maintaining the Navy Lodge's rating as the fifth Cleanest Hotel Chain in the United States according to Metrix Hospitality, an industry-marketing firm," said Christine Gist, Navy Lodge Norfolk manager. "Navy Lodge Norfolk is also a winner of the American Hotel and Lodging Association Educational Institute's Meritorious Award."

Guests may reach the Navy Lodge Reservation Center by calling toll-free 1-800-NAVY-INN (628-9466) in the continental United States. The Reservation Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to serve Navy Lodge guests around the world. Reservations can also be made online at www.navy-lodge.com.
